PIONEER ERA “FCSL

11 AUGUST 1997

First day of school of the Free Christian School Liestal (FCSL) with 12 children from the 1st-3rd primary classes. Their teacher Fritz Giese and pioneer parents celebrate the joint start together with invited guests.
Fritz Giese had previously spent 30 years in Peru as a teacher and founder of various Christian schools. In his new challenging task at FCSL, he was actively supported by his wife Rosmarie.

AUGUST 1998

Opening of the kindergarten under the direction of Mrs Gaby Bärtschi. Mrs Brigitte Meier joins as a new primary teacher.
The school grows by another class every year.

AUGUST 2000

Opening of the Sekundarschule (secondary school) with 15 children in the 6th school year.
The annexed factory building is converted by the Good Samaritans Foundation into a beautiful school building with four bright, fully equipped classrooms. The rooms are inaugurated with a big celebration.

THE SCHOOL CONTINUES TO GROW AND QUALIFY

AUGUST 2004

Fritz Giese retires and his successor Stefan Kobelt takes office as the new headmaster. Under his leadership the Secondary A expanded.

AUGUST 2005

Opening of a playgroup once a week, integrated into the kindergarten.

AUGUST 2006 AND MAY 2008

Introduction of a quality assurance system (FQS) for the entire school.

Presentation of the FQS certificate of the Swiss Teachers’ Association by Dr Stittmatter. An important milestone in the school’s history has been reached.

CHANGE IN THE SCHOOL LEADERSHIP

AUGUST 2008

Men Reinalter (former Gymnasium teacher at the Free Evangelical School Schiers) takes over as headmaster of the FCSL.
Expansion of the school lunch programme with volunteer mothers as cooks.

AUGUST 2010

Expansion of the secondary school to all three levels A, E and P.

The teaching team grows to 20 full-time and part-time teachers.

AUGUST 2015

According to HARMOS start of the school system 6/3 (6 years primary school, 3 years secondary school).
Introduction of the new funding concept (see funding concept under downloads).

NEW NAME “UNICA” AND 20TH ANNIVERSARY

AUGUST 2016

Start of the school year 2016/2017 with a new name: UNICA School. Division of the school management into three instances: Headmaster and Head of Secondary School; Head of Primary School; Managing Director.

SEPTEMBER 2017

20-year anniversary

This special birthday was celebrated with a big ceremony.

MARCH 2018

As a whole school, the musical Esther was performed.

AN ESTABLISHED SCHOOL IN LIESTAL

SEPTEMBER 2020

The UNICA school has a stand at the city festival in Liestal. The school is even allowed to open the festival stage with a few songs from the musical “Annie”! There are many good conversations.

Also in September, the Children’s Day takes place. Once again, the UNICA school is invited and is allowed to offer children’s games on the Gitterli.

DECEMBER 2019

LEGO® STADT-PROJEKT is in the school building for three days. The whole school – from nursery to secondary – builds a huge city together and shows it to the parents at the end. A really great event!

MARCH 2020

Within one day, the entire school operation was switched to “distance learning” – the tried and tested team of teachers mastered the Corona lockdown period together and enabled the students to continue their schooling smoothly.

NEW IDEAS

JUNE 2020

In June, the “baton” was handed over: Carlos Peter now takes over as Head of the Comprehensive School and the Secondary School. Ulrike Felber continues as head of the primary school. The management team is complemented by a secretary, an accountant and a project manager.

Four generations of school leaders were present at the baton handover!

A new school model complements the existing school offer: the UnicaFlex model!

School at school and school at an extracurricular place of learning!

MARCH 2022

Since the Week of Prayer in November 2021, the school has been growing weekly! Now over 100 students attend Unica.
